India’s Semiconductor Mission: Second Phase Set to Launch in the Next 3-4 Months

Dholera SIR, soon to be the future of Gujarat as well as India, is on its way to making everyone proud. With many technologies coming around, it is noted that after a while, Dholera SIR will be the name from which India will be known. Dholera Special Investment Region is India’s largest Greenfield project as well as will also be the 2nd largest international airport. With these two, there will be many more amenities that will shape the future of Dholera smart city and India.

Adding to the above list, there will be many more good ventures on their way. But let’s remember some of the running projects of Dholera SIR. We have Tata Semiconductor’s manufacturing plant; expressway work is  almost completed, and international airport work will start soon, etc. These projects’ work has been started in the lap of Dholera smart city.

Another achievement is that Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the 2nd phase of India’s semiconductor project. Ashwimi Vaishnaw, in the Semicon India 2024 event, said that the 2nd phase will be launched in 3-4 months and highlighted the government’s commitment, stating, “We are formulating Semicon 2.0, which will be a much-expanded form of the first phase. We will work towards getting the entire ecosystem on board.”  The original Semiconductor mission was launched in December 2021 with an allocation of ₹76,000 crores for production-related services. Since then, several projects have received approval, including a chip fabrication unit in Dholera, Gujarat, and four chip packaging units—three located in Sanand, Gujarat, and one in Morigaon, Assam. Collectively, these projects represent an investment of ₹1.50 lakh crore. This clearly states that the second phase won’t be only production but will cover all aspects from production to supply chain, including component manufacturers and raw material suppliers.

In the second phase of the Semicon plant, the main focus will be increasing the availability of raw materials. The event was witnessed by nearly 250 exhibitors, including 140 international exhibitors and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Uttar Pradesh CM said that land and capital subsidies are being made available, amounting to about 25% of total costs. Plus 1000 acres of land in the Yamuna authority have been reserved for this purpose. Additionally, the exhibitors and industry leaders also saw promising announcements. Larsen & Toubro Ltd. announced an investment of over $300 million to create a chip company. NXP Semiconductors will invest over $1 billion in India, doubling its research and development efforts.

Also, at the inaugural session, Renesas Electronics chief executive officer Hidetoshi Shibata announced a partnership with CG Power for an assembly and test semiconductor plant. With that, he stated that Renesas will double its workforce in India by next year. The managing director and chief executive of Tata Electronics highlighted the significance of the semiconductor project as being part of Viksit Bharat. It is expected that by 2047, it will create around 50,000 jobs and have a positive effect on the job creation ecosystem.

It is visible that India is on its way to becoming the next semiconductor powerhouse of Asia, and Ajit Maoncha, SEMI President and chief executive, is part of the crowd. He said, “With AI fueling global semiconductor demand, around 150 new fabs will be required to meet the industry’s ambitious $1 trillion target by 2030.” The numbers look promising with a bright future.

Hence, with all these, the future of India is brighter than it ever was. Be part of India’s growth, as Satyaja Group has become a part of it. Invest with Satyaja Group, and let’s witness India’s growth together!
